How to use Groups on the Director amplifiers

The AudioControl Director series amplifiers allow you to group 2 or more zones together so they act as one. This is useful if you have multiple sets of speakers for a single area, and you want them to all share the same input, volume level, and power setting.

How to set up a group

In the Director's web interface, each zone has a drop down menu labeled "GRP" for group.

Give every zone in a selected group the same group number. For example, If Zones 1 & 2 both power speakers in the same room, you can put them both in Group 1. Click the GRP LOCK button to activate the group controls.

Now, whenever a command is sent to the amplifier from a control system, the command will affect every zone in the group the same. The zones will always have the same volume level, power status, and input.
Any zone that is NOT part of a group does not need a group number! Leave un-grouped zones on "GRP" in the drop down menu.

Director D2800 & D4600

On the Director D2800 and D4600, a zone can only listen to its direct local input (i.e. Outputs 3-4 only receive audio from Inputs 3-4), or from the BUS A & B inputs. Because of this, you'll want to make sure that the audio source you choose for the group is connected to the BUS inputs.
If you're bridging outputs and you want to use groups to make the amps act as a stereo pair, you can use the local inputs. Just put one channel into input 1, and the second channel into input 3, and group the zones together!

Director M-series Matrix amps

On the matrix Director amplifiers, any input can be routed to any output. Zones in a group will always use the same input pair.
Digital outputs A & B can also be part of groups on the matrix amplifiers, so audio sent from the Director to other amplifiers can still have the same controls!
