An AudioControl Dante amplifier has 3 kinds of inputs:
- Local inputs
- Dante Inputs (streams)
- AudioControl Dante Streams
Local Inputs are the RCAs and Digital inputs that are connected directly to the amplifier. In the Input Selection menu in the Director web interface, these are found under Input Sources.
These local RCA inputs are the sources that will also be available to other AudioControl Dante amps that are on the same Dante network.
Dante inputs are the Dante streams that are routed from third-party Dante sources to this amp via Dante Controller.
AudioControl Dante Streams
AudioControl Dante Streams are the signals connected to other AudioControl Dante amps on the same network. Depending on how many amps are in your system, you may see up to 7 different amplifiers available in the Input Selection List.
Rule of Thumb: Keep 'em Separated
We recommend that sources connected to AudioControl Dante amps and sources connected via Dante Controller should be kept on separate Dante stream channels when possible.
In the above example system, all of the sources that are connected directly into an AudioControl amp are connected to Inputs 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 on their respective amps. Connections made via Dante Controller are routed to Dante Streams 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-16. By doing this, AudioControl local source Dante streams will not overlap on non AudioControl Dante streams that are subscribed thru Dante controller.
Why does this matter?
AudioControl amps do not communicate with Dante controller. Because of this, when AudioControl Dante amps are dynamically switching between Dante streams between other AudioControl amps, situations can arise where a zone that is subscribed to a non AC Dante stream will be disconnected. Resulting in having to resubscribe the stream in Dante controller manually.
How to avoid this?
By ensuring Non AC-dante streams do not share the same Dante stream channel numbers as AudioControl Dante streams.
