Updating a Concert XR or Maestro X-series from firmware v1.29

Updating a Concert XR or Maestro X-series from firmware v1.29

If your Concert XR-4, 6, 8, or Maestro X7, 9 is on firmware version 1.29 or older, you cannot update it to the current version using the standard update method.

The update process requires you to factory reset the unit, so you may want to Store a Secure backup before beginning.

Store Secure Backup

Web Interface: Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your XR receiver or X series processor in the web address field. Once the web interface is loaded go to the Engineering tab and select Store Secure Backup. You will see a prompt to enter a 4-digit PIN, the default PIN is 0000, select OK. Your settings are now securely stored.
Front Panel: Press and hold the MENU button on the front panel for about 4 seconds, the Engineering menu will be displayed. Scroll down to and select Store Secure Backup > select Enter Pin, the default pin is 0000, press Select.

Updating From 1.29 to 1.37

Step 1: Download 1.37

Download firmware version 1.37 from the link here: https://avproglobal.egnyte.com/dl/4HkFR7zycm
Once downloaded, extract the files from the .zip folder. On a Mac, double clicking the folder should automatically extract the files. On a Windows computer, right click the .zip file and click "Extract All."

Step 2: Load the files onto a USB drive

You will need a USB thumb drive that can old 4GB or less, and is formatted to FAT32. Connect the USB drive to a USB port on your computer.
In the firmware folder you'll find 2 files: "AVRx0_System1v37.fw" and "image.swu".

Copy the first file, AVRx0_System1v37(AudioControl).fw onto the USB drive. Once it's on the drive, eject the USB from your computer, and connect it to the USB port on the rear panel of your Receiver or Processor.

Step 3: Start the first update

Once the USB drive is connected to the port on the back of your unit, go to the front panel.
Press & hold the INFO and DISPLAY buttons until you see the firmware begin to load.

The update takes about 10 minutes. The unit will power off when the firmware file has been updated.
If the update does not begin automatically, follow any prompts on screen to continue with the update. If the front panel asks you to press OK, you can use the SELECT button.

Step 4: Factory reset the unit

Power the unit back on (pressing the menu button on the front panel will wake it up). Wait for System Starting & Net Starting to disappear from the Front Panel screen.
Press & hold the front panel MENU button for about 5 seconds until the Engineering Menu pops up. Select Reset to Factory Defaults. The unit will power off, power it back on.

Step 5: Load the next firmware file

Remove the USB drive from the receiver or processor and connect it back into your computer. Delete all of the files off the USB drive.
Copy the image.swu file from the firmware folder onto the blank USB drive.
Eject the USB drive from your computer and connect it to the USB port on your receiver or processor.

Step 6: Start the second update

Press & hold the INFO and DISPLAY buttons on the front panel until the display shows NET Updating.
The update will take about 5 minutes, and the unit will power off when the file has been updated.

Step 7: Factory reset the unit again

Power the unit back on (pressing the menu button on the front panel will wake it up). Wait for System Starting & Net Starting to disappear from the Front Panel screen.
Press & hold the front panel MENU button for about 5 seconds until the Engineering Menu pops up. Select Reset to Factory Defaults. The unit will power off, power it back on.

When the unit is powered back on again, press & hold the MENU button to access the engineering menu, and scroll down to the 3rd page. You should see the Host/IAP has now updated to 1.37, and all other devices have updated as well.

Step 8: Restore your settings

In the engineering menu, navigate to and select Restore Secure Backup. You will be prompted with a warning message, press the Direct button to continue and complete the process of restoring your settings. You can also restore settings via the web interface Engineering menu.
The unit will power off when the backup is loaded.
